Hartsholme Park
Visited 10/10/2023
Car Park – gravel car park, no disabled parking, but none needed as it’s a large car park.
Toilets – disabled toilet are by the cafe area and need a RADAR key to unlock the doors. Once inside the toilets were in good condition and had well equipped facilities.
Cafe – it was closed when we got there. It is a kiosk with benches outside. The ground round the cafe was a flat, hard surface, easy to navigate. The benches were 'all in one' picnic benches, which would be difficult to sit at for those who are not in a wheel chair but have with limited movement.
Visitor Centre - this was closed when the park was visited.
Ground surfaces - – paths are generally flattened earth and some bark around the wooded area. There were gravel and tarmac paths in the open areas and near the playground area.
Ease of movement – generally, it was easy to move around. The paths were mostly even but bumpy in some places. There was a lawned area with a low terrace wall on the side nearest the lake. The terrace had stairs at one side with a steep slope beside it, presumably for wheel and push chairs, but it was much too steep for a wheelchair. Finding another way around the terrace required a going back to one of the paths. Also there was a bridge which had a raised edge on the lead up to the bridge, which required the wheelchair to be lifted over the this edge.
Sound – it was pleasant nature park sounds, nothing extraordinary.
Atmosphere – it is a relaxing, nice place with a lovely natural atmosphere.
Colours – all natural colours
Signage and information boards – signage and boards were at an appropriate height and easy to read.
