Near Grantham. Gardens, shop, coffee room, cafe.
Parking - disabled parking area is on rough gravel. There is a slope of about 20 metres across gravel and grass to get to the entrance of the garden.
Ease of movement - the gardens are challenging for a manual wheelchair. The lower parts of the gardens are mostly inaccessible for manual wheelchair users. There are many slopes, rough gravel and grass. There is flat ground areas, such as around the buildings and on the bowling green. It's up to individuals and their carers how far they explore the gardens. Inspite of access obsticles, we did manage to access and enjoy a lot of the garden areas, as the photos show.
Coffee Room - the inside area is inaccessible to wheelchair users, there are two steps to go in. But there are tables and service outside.
The Applestore Cafe - there is seating inside and outside. There is a door threshold ridge and small slope to access inside the cafe, which was managable. We sat outside and there was good access room around tables. The cafe provides a small choice of cold food including, pre-packed sandwiches, homemade quiches and cakes. Vegan food is not available.
Toilets - disability toilets are situated in an old modified stable block. It is spacious, well equiped and accessible.
Staff - staff were friendly and helpful, explained everything about access to gardens and gave us a map of gardens which shows accessible areas.
Exiting gardens - the staff suggested to bring our car to the side entrance to avoid taking our manual wheelchair back up the sloping gravel path to the car park. If the wheelchair user is with only one other person, this will require the wheelchair user to be alone for a few minutes while their vehicle is taken to the side entrance.
