Newark Air Museum

Tuesday, March 5th, 2024

Parking - car park had 7 disabled parking spaces near the main entrance. The parking is on fine gravel, so it wasn’t very difficult to move around.

Outside paths - many paths were concrete and some were tarmac. There are gravel areas around many of the planes. Also some of the planes were on short grass areas, which was OK to navigate across.

Doorways - many had lips or ridges which were difficult to move over. The doorways were wide enough and stayed open by themselves.

Ease of movement - It was good, considering the large area of the museum. The outside paths were easy to negotiate. Some areas were gravel or grass which may cause access difficulties for some. Some cockpits of planes could be viewed, but one would need to climb a ladder or negotiate steps to access them.

Lighting outside - our visit was on a nice, sunny day, so lighting was very good.

Lighting inside - it was dark in places, but we were able to view the exhibits.

Sound - There were no exhibit sounds anywhere. It was a quiet ambience. There were very few people there on the day we visited, so it was very quiet and pleasant.

Cafe - it was good access to it, wide doors. It was easy to move around. The space isn’t very big, but there were also benches outside. The food was nice.

Colours - inside the colours were greys, greens and browns (military camouflage).

Floor surfaces - in the hangars it was concrete floor surfaces, making it easy to move around.

Signage - There was clear signage with were arrows on some of the floors.

Toilets - there were 2 disabled toilets, one at the cafe and one nearer the entrance. The one at the cafe was well equiped, but a bit small, so tight if one has a big wheelchair. We were informed the other disabled toilet is larger.

Dogs - they accept assistance dogs.
