Lindum Road, Lincoln

Parking - parking is not available at the Usher grounds. The nearest disability parking is at Flaxengate Car Park which is just across the road from the gallery.

Outside access and paths - in addition to steps, the Usher Gallery has a gently rising ramp leading to the wide automatic doors of the entrance. The gallery is set in a lawned area on a hillside. There is a network of tarmac paths which traverse this hillside setting.

Inside access - the ground and first floors of the gallery are flat, without ramps or challenging doorway thresholds. There is a good sized lift available to access the first floor or the grand central staircase can be used. Both floors allow plenty of space around the exhibits.

Lighting - most of the Usher Gallery is well lit and exhibits veiwed without difficulty. At the time of our visit Gallery 3 had subdued levels of lighting. The walls and ceiling are black and some exhibit panels were not lit. This gallery contains decortive tableware and ornaments and it is assumed the reduced lighting is necessary to preserve the colour of these delicate items. Because of this lighting environment, Gallery 3 may not be suitable for people with low vision.

Sound - during our visit we only heard people talking and moving around. At other times there might be audio exhibits creating a variety of sounds.

Signage - the information panels next to the artworks has quite small text, requiring the reader to lean in closely to see them. However, there are large print booklets available in the exhibition rooms, also large print booklets and hearing loops can be requested.

Toilets - the disability tiolets are in the shop/entrance area. The toilet is well equipped and roomy enough to turn a wheelchair around.

Support animals - assistance dogs are allowed.

Other information - the Usher Gallery does not have a eatery but there is a cafe a short distance away located at the Lincoln Museum.
